Works of the flesh series: Sorcery

Sorcery

I hate witchcraft so damn much that it irks me.

Sorcery is defined as using evil supernatural power over people and it has really strong connections with witchcraft and casting spells.

Now that that is covered, let's head back to my hate for witchcraft:

I utterly hate it.

In my family, witchcraft seems to be a trend that it’s slowly eating us up.

I hear about people turning their backs on each other, people paying huge amounts of money for false solutions and people getting so badly hurt that it hurts me.

I had been sucked into witchcraft from a young age when consent was not given at all, but once I could stand up for myself and once God showed me that it was really wrong, even when I felt it was, I told my family that I wanted nothing to do with it.

I told myself that it would die with me and that I will work with God on making sure that my family never goes through that, unlike me.

I called it quits.

However. . .

I just don’t know how many more times God needs to prove to my family that Witchcraft will never be the answer to their problems.

In my family, someone once told me that sometimes God can’t help us and that’s why we have to go to other means to solve our problems — something between those lines. Other means such as calling ancestors and spirits from places I rather not know about.

And that phone call to the spirits ain't cheap at all. . .

Witchcraft is pretty much worshipping earthly things, nature or even the dead. It's like believing that supernatural powers and entities, and are definitely not God, will be the answer to your problems.

I have heard many reasons why people go to witch doctors, mediums and so forth:

“Oh, because our ancestors are looking after us and they will come to help us when we call.”

“Oh, because the dead have been through this and they can tell us what to do.”

”Give me your palm and let me see your future.”

The only being that has seen and will forever see my future before I get there is God and no one else. Pronto.

“There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or daughter pass through the fire [as a sacrifice], one who uses divination and fortune-telling, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a charm or spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or a necromancer [who seeks the dead]. For everyone who does these things is utterly repulsive to the LORD; and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God is driving them out before you.” ‭‭
— Deuteronomy‬ ‭18:10-12‬ ‭AMP‬‬

I know, I know that you have heard of Harry Poter. You know, the wizard kid that has inspired many wizards-related contents such as books, art and so forth.

Yeah, what that lad does shouldn't be "cool" for us nor inspire us to see magic as something admirable.

I remember a time when I used to find magic cool and even when people do magic stuff on movies, I'm just there like: That's actually pretty cool.

NO!

You see, as a communications and media studies student, I know that I should be really careful with that type of content I let my eyes feast on.

Not just as a viewer but as a Christian viewer as well.

What we see and hear influences how we think and behave, and by no means do I want to be behaving in a way that hints out a connection (even a brief one) with sorcery.

As Christian women, we should stay away from types of sorcery.

No more fortune-telling practices, seeking or admiration.

No more trusting in astrology or whatever it is that people are trusting start to predict.

No more Ouija boards.

Yeah, you heard me.

There are kids (KIDS!) ditching monopoly and other games to take a punch at Ouija boards and try to talk with spirits.

As far as I know, those spirits are not from God.

The Holy Spirit lives in you and to call God Himself for a conversation, you only need to pray and He will be there, ready to answer your call. He has been there from the very beginning.

You don't need boards, palm reading sessions, star mapping or whatever to talk to God.

You need faith and prayer to reach God. You need Jesus to reach God and thankfully, He lives in us in the form of His Spirit.

God's Spirit is our friend, comforter, advocate, helper and so much more. He is a beautiful and amazing Gift of God, and He definitely doesn't come from boards or cards.

You see, the Holy Spirit helps us in moments of trial, He helps walk in the path God created for us, the right path and He is there to help us fight the other spirits, amongst many other things.

The thing is, we so badly need God in this thing called the Spiritual warfare, which means that we are pretty much a war going on in the invisible spiritual world and that affects the visible wars.

You see, in that war, we don't focus on fighting what we see. . . No, no, no.

We are fighting spiritual beings here:

We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places
- Ephesians 6:12

We are fighting spiritual evil things here, ladies. Beings that are powerful, tricky and quite creative bastards BUT, the good thing is that we have God and no - and I mean no one - defeats God.

Want greater news?

God fights for us.

Yup, the Almighty, amazing and perfect God fights for us and He also gives us everything we need to fight this war.

In Ephesians 6: 14-18, Paul tells us to equip ourselves with everything we need to fight this war. Everything that God has given us to fight this war and I need you, dear lovingly sister, to take that equipment and fight against sorcery and the evil spirits wondering around in our world.

How to watch out for it?

Here are a few tips, some that I have been embracing, to keep me away from all types of sorcery :

  • Deny them all!!! No astrology, no palm reading, no horoscope. Nada.

  • Be really careful about what you write, read, watch and listen to. We are can be fooled by the things that surround us.

  • PRAY! Yes, sister, pray for those who need to be clutched away from the claws of the Evil One. Pray that you may not fall as a victim of the tricks of Satan. Pray to stay close to God and ask Him to help you lead people to Him.
